View Full Version : Bad tube in the Cam 88

Well I finally figured out why the ears on the Cam 88 were so terrible. After suffering with the crappy RX I decided to take it over to 150's shop and have him put all the tubes on the tester, and all of them checked out fairly deep in the "Good" range of the meter except for one which had the needle deep in the "Replace" range, after checking out the service manual and schematics for it, that tube was part of the RX side of the radio, which would explain the crappy ears.

So, need to get me a 12BA6 tube or equivalent and she should be rockin' and rollin'!

I seem to also have a problem either with the channel selector dial or maybe have a crystal out. We could have sworn up and down that channels 6-9 worked when we first plugged it in and then after doing some testing those channels didnt have anything on them, then some other random channels went out but after fiddling with the selector they popped back on, still couldn't get 6-9 to come back in though. Gonna have to look harder in to that one, I am leaning towards a blown crystal.....

Anyone have a parts donor they wanna give me? :o I know I can get the tube cheaply and easily enough for about $8, not sure about the crystal though, might have to have one grown?

Good lookin' out 557. I had them make my Amphenol to Cobra 4 pin adapter cable for me to use on the Cam 88. Didn't realize they did crystals too. Thanks again. :seeya:

Is it the big crystals or small ones in the cam because I may have them to

Not sure the difference between big and small as I haven't seen the two types. If I had to guess I would say they are "big" crystals. They are the ones soldered right to the channel selector board if that helps.

It's actually at 150's shop right now, waiting to get some parts for it and take care of it all in one shot. Still using the TRC-495 in the meantime.
