I have a 2x4 with a cobra 29ltd for the drive. i have grounded everything i can think of. my swrs are flat. my question is though what all would need to upgrade to see more volts. i know the batteries, how many roughly? and also deep cycle? or no. also a voltage regulator correct or a battery isolater? where do i get the regulator or isolator the best bang for the buck. just curious if i could get a little help if not its allgood thanks.

To increase your volts you are going to need to do a few things... First you are going to need an alternator capable of keeping up with the increased voltage output that you are trying to achieve at however many amps you need to be seeing (we all pretty much recommend Leece Nevilles for volting applications). Secondly you will need an alternator that has had the internal regulator removed and has a field wire hookup for an external regulator. After that you need a suitable battery bank to handle your new charge rate (ie 8v+8v in series for a 16v [18v charging] system). You would also keep this whole system isolated from your vehicles primary charging system as to not fry any of your vehicles electrical components (so you would leave your stock charging system alone and add additional alternator(s)). Then you just need yourself an external voltage regulator and you're done.

I would not recommend running a stock 2 driving 4 (in one case) on anything higher then 15 volts unless you separate the sections and power them individually.

if the alternator upgrade is not possible
how about a small motor maul

yeah i think. that would be when i get on it and start talking and i watch te meter swing correct. im still learning i wanna break that 1k mark. LOL seriously though. thats why whenn you said 1100 i was shocked. what am i doing wrong i thought? the 4 batts was that with an extra alternator too? if not how did you set that up?

If I am not mistaken, What coondog was trying to explain about idle watts might have been just that, idleing. Try revving your motor to about the same rpm's as when you are driving ( for me that's about 1800 )
Then say the word AUUUUUDDDDDIOOOOOOOOOO.
Look at your meter for your peak swing.
Hopefully I was helpful, but I'm just a mudduck

in that mobeal i had just one alt.,200 amper with the smallest pully i could get for it.i ran multi-strand 0 gauge wire from front to back and each batt had 0 gauge.a person can use 4 gauge if 0 gauge is a bit much for ya when it comes to price.

with the DM 2x4 i should mention that its a true blue real DaveMade.top of the line type of amp for that model, meaning it"ll do alot better then a bogus 2x4 want a be DM.

im running a a 2x4 skywalker. according to them i could see the wattage difference if i get the swrs down to 1.2 and i get the voltage to 14.4 volts. i should see between 1.1k to 1.4k. according to them. so thats what i am trying to figure out how to and what to do.:ihih::yesnod:

i thought joe made did'nt build 2x4

this was what i learned from other Forums i use to be with.Joe the original and then others trying to build the DM but nothing like his work.

i"ve seen DM amps without the Cobra decal like mine has.i was told there was a difference from real to one a be.i"ve heard about this for a few years now.i"ve heard about it for so long from cb Techs i figured its true.
