Hi, I am rick getting ready for a new radio after 20+ years. I won a DAK MK9 on Ebay, the seller is not contacting me on the details of the sale. I really need a radio and an antenna. I need to keep busy while my wife works part time. I have been living in the same place for 5 years. My landlord told me he planted an antenna on the hill years ago. On monday, I followed the coax up the hill and found the coax stripped back and the cable buried. I pulled it back and replaced the end with a PL-259 after I cut 10' off the end. The copper was really oxidised and corroded. I need a radio because in 2008 I had an anurisim that ended my career in broadcast television as an engineer.I won a DAK CB on EBAY and am ready to send the seller a money order. I have not heard from him since last weekend. I have been looking at the Workman B-100 antenna, it would work out fine for me. If you have a radio or antenna I can use, please get back to me ASAP! Thanks, rick.:ihih:

welcome back to the hobby Rick! first suggestion I have would be to avoid the workman antenna. If you have a good spot and no restrictions a good starter antenna for the base is the A99. Reasonably priced and will do you better than the workman. As far as the Dak is concerned I'd advise you contact ebay and see what they tell you. You shouldnt have to wait this long to be contacted. They may void the sale for you then you can get a different radio. The Dak is nice looking but not a great performer...you can do better. Hope this points you in the right direction and any questions, just keep posting.

The exposed buried coax that you dug up is probably trashed. Coax is easily contaminated by water, so you will probably need to replace that old coax. I am surprised that as an ex-broadcast engineer, you didn't already know this type of information.
Good luck.

Hi Rick.
I agree with all the guys.
Although, I wold spend the extra $20 and get an IMAX 2000 instead of the 99. I just think it is a much higher quality antenna for the money.
You know, since you are low on funds, maybe you can borrow a small dummy load, attach it to the far end of the coax, and check if the coax is ok for now, and worry about replacing it later. You also may want to check the brand and type of coax you have there right now. I am running a type of 'Bury Flex' cable right now that is designed to be underground. If your coax has a SOLID insulation and NOT foam. only the connector ends realy need to be cleaned up right now (I have had that happen before). And I think we talked about the Dak IX before.
By the way, were you the fellow that was bidding on my Sonar FS-2340 a couple of weeks ago ?
Yours, Ron

On a side note....I think your gonna find that the guy with the DAK might be doing you a favor Rick. They are "moody" radios and tend to not meet up to ones expectations in some cases. The DAK X's were to be the better release as I understand it. I had a pal in Ohio that had one and a Cobra 2000. He said his 2000 would outperform the DAK and I can tell you that the Cobra sounded 10 times better than the DAK and the Dak was aligned and tuned right. It just was lacking in the audio Dept

Imax is a 5/8 wave antenna and will hold more power, radiate at a better angle, recieve better, and is 3 feet taller than the A99 cousin. You'll pay a few extra dols. but it's worth that extra cash
