I do mostly AM talkiong so SSB isn't a deal breaker if the radio doesn't have one (although I have done some talking on SSB) . I like the Echo and talk back features. I will not be using a kicker. The above radios seem fairly close features and in price. So how do they compare in TX and RX? How about quality Other input or ideas before I pull the trigger?

I like to travel with CB radio as it provides an excellent way to share information while on the road. The problem is that today's cars and to a lesser extent light trucks don't have enough room to mount conventional radios.

I also ride motorcycles. At least a couple companies offer CB radios with the units tucked away and with controls on the handlebars. I think it would be easy enough to make similar units available for today's smaller cars. It would be easy to mount the controls and microphones beneath the dashboard, for instance, with the radio itself under the seat or in the trunk.

I predict that the company who takes advantage of this opportunity and offers such a unit in the $150 range will make a bundle.

What are your thoughts?

so i bought this for some chump change and have a few questions. first off il state it dk's 1w swings to 27w modulation starts to go over when u whistle so we wont say 27 lets say 25ish wattage. anyways when its on it receives great and really transmits. one problem i notice is A when the switch is on the off and u plug in the power cord in the back it switches on for a split second and u can hear it and see the display light up. also when your in receive mode it is a steady static but then every 10 min or so it spikes in audio and what i can almost hear is WX for about 0.10 seconds. then its normal again. there isnt any hum on transmit or any problems on WX mode. also in WX mode it does that interesting peaking noise when ever. it looks like this thing has been really worked on..... i dont know why there is two LARGE caps inside one is pink btw, and a coil has been added to the so239 on the back of the radio. i bought it for 20bucks and it came with a cobra high gear HG m84 and a bracket and a brand new sack with mounting bumpers for a galaxy, and mic clip and hardware. anyways ill let the pics do that talking...... please no bashing.

Just recieved my STD tuned 78 elite and this thing is straight SMOKIN'! Thanks man, it turned out great. I sent out a new in the box 78 elite for STD's blessing along with one of the older Mr. Jiggs roger beeps toys. He took the swr, s, cal three position switch and made each position a different noise and then used the ch 9 swith for turning the roger beep on and off. The roger beep works perfectly and is annoying as shit, especially the one that raises the pitch, like a schwingggg!
It's hitting my JoeMade 2x12 as expected and pegging the 2500 slug, nothing but flowers on CH 19 and people asking me what kind of radio is that.
As always, STD is super easy and cool as ice to deal with, thanks MANG!
