2x8 combinner question. and help

i have issues with my 2x8 using the big davemade transformers. i have fix some issues already as to the 2 pill secting the builder had 2 turns on the input and output transformers
so i fix the input by changing it to 4 and left the 2 turn in the output transformer.
i'm fixing this my self as the builder said there is nothing wrong.
then i found out that on the 8 pill section the input has 5 turns on the transformer and 5 on the output where i was told the input is fine 5 turns but the output transformer should be 4 turns. also on the 8pill side out put combiner the middle one has 4 turns where the
left and right side have 5 turns. i enclose pictures. thanks

sounds like he made it a high wrap so 5 and 5 would work. difference in combiners might cause an imbalance. 2 and 2 on the 2 pill UGH... what were the transformer sizes

on the 2 pill side small input and davemade output on 8 pill side davemade output transformers

i just fixed one with a bad keying transistor it had 5 wraps input with one 330 pf cap across the input and 5 wraps output with two 330 pf caps across the output transformer. looked like 16 ga wire on both sides. might have been built similar to yours.

the amp has a few issues i'm not sastified with.
1=if i disable the built in driver and try to use a 1x2 it seems like to much drive and blows a pill when we all know every body uses a 1x2 to drive a 8 pill.
if i try to lower the dead key to lets say 300rms. so i can swing it the reflect is not steady.at 600=5 watts at 300=15watts
the best i can get out of the box is 600wattsrms. even on bolts meaning if i add a 6volt to my 12 volt holding 17 volts box only does close to 750.rms.on ssb it keeps the 1000 slug in the corner.on 14.50 volts. like the box is been choke some how .
like i stated before i found a few issues that i corrected but have not tested yet do to still waiting for couple of pills and cap.
the builder is hrd to get a hold off and after bringing it to him 3 times im not happy so i rather fix it my self.

i think you just need to have it completely redone to be honest

if it won't do watts at 12V it ain't gonna pick up and do what it supposed to at higher voltages

i can fix the box my self once i get the right info as what need to be fix/change to make it rite
i knew there was a problem from the beginning when i'm charging at 14.50 and with a load drops to 13.89 but how can the box do the same watts with the van running and when i'm just on batt. 12v.

i don't think it's a matter of changing one thing or another, i'm thinking the box needs to be completely pulled apart, xfrmrs re-wrapped and all cap and resistor values looked at and changed if necessary....at this point you are an amp fixer, it's time for the amp to see a real builder

i can asure you the caps value are correct except for 2 that were change raps on ouput were re done from 5 to 4 not to hard take off one turn then resolder. input of 2 pill had 2turns change it to 4 turns my only question was if the output combiner had the right raps 4 in the middle and 5 on the left/right.

one wrap on 1/2 of a xfrmr is not going to make that much of a difference in total watts....but yes they should pass through each side an equal # of times

and by checking the caps did you actually pull them and check them on a capacitance meter?
one being way off can cause all kinds of weirdness
i've had brand spanking new caps that were bad or off

dead key the box with like 80-100W of drive for about 10-15 sec, then QUICKLY feel the xfrmrs and pills for abnormal heat, they should be a LITTLE warm, what you are looking for is something hotter than everything else

you'll need the box open and accessible, you want to start checking right after you get off the key, find something hotter than everything else...start looking there

first why wont you tell us what box it is.
second you have no idea that the cap values are correct for the tunning of that box. So just changing wraps can open up a bigger can of worms.

willy with no disrespect... send it off to get built and tuned correctly. 55 would have it straight in no time.

sorry about the delay just got back lastnight from new orleans took wife on vacation
there is no party like bourban st party. here is a picture of the whole box i call 55 but he said he is back up 6month and he is not doing any dc stuff right now i got the box working
had to change the other pill in the same bank that blew even though it tested good it did not wanted to work with a new one only.i change all the caps as he suggested. but i'm still questioning the wire on the combiners i think they look small in gauge for the power out put they look like 18 to 20 gauge and i think they suppose to be 16 gauge to handle up to 1800 watts.?? i also have to change the 2 turn in the driver input trans to atleast 3 to 4 turns according to 55.
