    Default Problems with Uniden 76

Hey just received a Uniden PC76XL off ebay. Turns out it's a Philly model too. Anyway I put it on the bird and I'm seeing about a 2w DK and backswinging to about 1w.

D11 was clipped and L14 was 'tweaked' by the previous owner.

I'm thinking the final and/or driver might be bad. Any ideas on troubleshooting?

    Thanks

Have you resoldered the diode and then adjusted L14 for max dead key?
Check also the two tanks over in front of the driver. The radio may just be
    seriously out of tune.

I did try adjusting l14 but did not resolder the diode. The other coils were untouched

Truthfully I haven't done anything more than what I said. I didn't have time yesterday to take the gloves off anymore than putting it in the bird, examining it and adjusting L14. I'm hoping to get some time to play with it further this weekend. Just looking for a good place to get started diagnosing.

Spreading coils does not always up the watts. Pinch them back together and work from there.

some say it gives you more watts, others say it fools the meter. Yes, even the bird.

It varies from radio to radio. Those coils are a part of a tuned circuit and different coils are there for different reasons.
As we all know, these radios don't come set up optimally from the factory. They are set to meet a certain spec...and for
the most part they do. By peaking the tuning of the circuit, you can get more output. Removing certain components or
changing values (which is what spreading the coils does) you can get more output. You will also...after a certain point,
increase the spurious emissions...as in 54mhz. Unless there is a low pass filter in line, the meter doesn't care what
frequency (within limits) that the output is occuring at and will show them as output.
