Yeah, check out the first listing. I have heard they are good elements. You can listen to a before and after sound bite right there on the auction page.

hehe 23 bucks (plus 4 bucks shipping) for a ecm insert when its what 3-4 bucks else where ..hardly a "HI-FI" mic ..not saying it will sound bad but the price is a rip.

if you want the real deal d104 sound go for the nos MC-320 insert in Hi-Defs link

radioshack element $2.99 , sounds great in the d104, just add the 1k resistor to the base to power up the element, I use these to mount the element to, makes it easy to install in the d104 head: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3173937 , also the + on the element goes to the white wire in the d104, and the - on the element goes to the red wire in the d104 head

Condenser elements aren't bad but they are not anywhere near a viable direct replacement for an original D-104 element.

That "rebuild" is the equivalent of fitting an original Chevy Vega engine into a high performance 4 cylinder Porsche.

the radioshack element sounds better than the w2eny replacement element kit,, I have built several of the d104's with the radioshack element and they really do sound great, much better than the original d104 elements

That means you do not know how to make a D-104 work.

it just means you have a different way of doing things and I have a proven way that works for only a few $$ that anyone with a local radioshack can copy and put together in about 20 min and have a great sounding mic

these are the elements: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062215 I use these to mount the element , just push the leads though the center and bend over the back side so you have a place to solder the element leads and mic wires to : http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3173937, + on the element goes to the white wire in the head, - on the element goes to the red wire in the head, keep the thin foam in the front of the head, use some thicker foam or whatever you have around to hold the element in from the back side, then just add a 1k ohm resistor to the board on the base to power up the element when you key the mic

this method works good and I think it sounds better than the old d104 heads., does not have the tinny sound that a d104 element has.

You're not alone. A condensor electret mic will have a bump in mid-bass especially when close talked. They suck compared to a working D-104 crystal element.

The D-104 element must be followed by a very high input impedance stage or it will sound like crap. This includes the Ass-static preamp which is not suitable for a crystal mic unless tinny audio is actually desired.

A D-104 retrofitted with a corndensor mic element is not a D-104 anymore. It is not restored. It's haxxored.

    always good stuff Def, thanks,

I did a vid a while ago cutting between the freq response change when altering the input impedance (a mobile D104M6B)

Interesting video. That mic uses a ceramic element similar to Turner Puss II no?

The Base mic with crystal element shows night and day difference with very nice human sound.

Problem is misinformation mostly from hambones who have zero clue of what source impedance means.

    Tear up their licenses.

Yeah, it's ceramic similar to the turner. The quality is crap on these newer ones, I like the older version as it was more consistent and has less tonal variations.
