Is anyone still making big mobile tube amps like 50kw and bigger? If so who and what kind of crazy power requirements does an amp like that need? 2000 amps?

There is one other that I have not heard, but am very familar with. That is the Tennessee Walker amplifiers. He makes AC stuff. Johnboy is what he goes by. Been a little while since I been down to his shop, but when i was, I got to hold a 4cx20,000 in each hand. Those monster tubes are about 25 lbs. each. More power than I want, but you figure 30,000 per tube conservatively.

i could sure one of them up here on the 60th parrel in north canada

Tubes are too dangerous for me.
AINT NOBODY BUT BUCKWHEAT!!!!
DUCKPLUCKA IM GONE!!!

yea once you get into that 220v ac it gets pretty hardcore, you REALLY need to know what your doin or you can end up dead.
tubes are def the way to go if you have enough to run them i used to run tubes in the house and what a difference
NO NAME
I'll stick with my 250b's in the shack... For now. Should have never sold my z box
The Duck of Southern Maryland
when i feel like being mean and nasty on the radio i back up to the toweable generator
and slide the modified 5 tube heathkit in the back of the burban and use either a Varmint xl 1000 or the FatBoy 2x6
if im running mean and nasty
im running the xl1000 into the 5 tuber with 3-500zg
gets kinda boring after awhile
driving around the loop and blanking everything out not letting anyone know its me and drive back home
now when skip rolling then its playtime
now my 1000 an the 5tuber is just a driver for their big boxes
but it like what i got
What kind of amperage is needed to run like a 10kw tube?
Well first off the Ac that 10 guage is talking about is not ran on 220volts ac current like a house.. LOL.. It is ran from a 3 phase ac alternator which in turn is ran into a 3 phase transformer.. Current then leaves the trans and goes into a rectifer which is then made dc.. The only reason its called ac is beaucse the alternators supplys ac current to the transformer. And yes 10 gauge to answer your question there are many guys building ac boxes.. 55 FL. Ghostrider FL,Bluegill, Sneakey Pete, etc.. To run a 3cx3000a7 you will need a min 1 alternator and 1 transformer.. It will conservatively do about 7 kw... With a 2x8 driving.. A box with trans should run you about $5000.00 And to run a 10kw tube? That could be a 3000 or a 6000 you can get that kinda watts out of those but you will be stressing them.. And buy the way at 8kw know body will now the difference when you rev down and get 10...
Damn.... I missed this thread...
Looks like it started heading down "Crazy street"
But 13 got it going in the right direction !!
Fighting misinformation all over the world.. I ran 2 1.5 amps at 2250.. Worked great.. You can get buy with 1 .. 2 will make it where you dont have to rev your motor hard at all to get full out put..
We were at a friends house for dinner over the weekend. He's one of the biggest authorities on old Packard cars in the country. We were laughing about all the B.S. you can find on the internet regarding damn near anything, cars, electronics, whatever. His term for it is BMS. Benign Misinformation Syndrome.
