I should state what I am trying to do here is get ideas on what expanded forums and knowledge would make this place more attractive. My 'job' is to do those expansions of forums and try to help them get populated to start. I can't possibly know of all the radio/electronic interests.
I'm not in charge of morality or porn but I do have an opinion on how accessible it should be to joe public just for visiting. Is there an age restriction in place? What if some kid looks in. That's all.
No more than that. That's for peak to make rules on. I have no right to say what is restricted to garbage pile or elsewhere.

I like the idea of a combination phone and radio. I remember when it was first discussed then the first ones came out. Very expensive. Now it's very reasonable.

Right now the board is segregated CB and ham. Digital to include network radios could be put in the ham area.
Maybe a sub in CB for Mode Hacks to include digital or whatever unorthodix stuff someone has to contribute. hah SSTV.

there could also be a new forum for commercial radio if people would like that. By commercial, I mean subforums for business band stuff and broadcast radio, and subforums within those for modes AM/FM/digital/other?

For more interest in network radios - using android - well that opens things to hackery and there could be a place to discuss the advanced programming and software from a radio standpoint. Are there mods for them that would allow 'opening' the usual radio functions? The younger people are into software in greater numbers than last generation. Idea for the future.

we could also have a miltary surplus radio forum. Not like stodgy old AM Fone where they refuse to allow FM stuff to be discussed in their military radio section. - old sticks in the mid there. All military radios should be included. And why not military electronic equipment as well.

    a proposed expansion of subforums.
There are a couple ways to do it.
1: segregate added subforums hierarchically. advantage for example having one 'audio' sub in the top forum, and under that dividing to TX and RX with each 'speech' and 'hifi', and in each of those analog, digital, etc. The 'umbrella' audio subforum would contain all the many kinds of specific audio interests, separated by function and purpose.

2: linear added subforums. The advantage is the specific interests are right there on the main forum top level, in list format. The disadvantage is that the main forum 'web page' becomes a bit longer to scroll down. Small matter.

The illustration below is of the hierarchical organization. Comments wanted on how to do it best.
(none is etched in silicon.. )

input is still wanted for topics

yes it looks shitty because the software resizes images and the software would not allow a 19,000 character post of the workbook sheet. nothing worthwhile is easy.

all due respect dude you are over thinking this ..sorry but people will just post where ever .the search engine needs keyword updates more than adding sub forums for the brain dead to jump hoops though

and with one hand yobbo sweep the mess under the rug and stand back and says behold i have fixed it and takes a bow

the search box hardly works no real keywords for it to work on ..its worse than Lycos and Yahoo
work on that...endless sub forums just dont work and confuse people most cant get past the first level before just shrugging shoulders and just posting where ever they land ...
remember alot of these guys were born after 1970 when books had still had glossary's and indexes
    whats there is just fine

Thats a great layout, but somebody might have to go pull threads to stick into the various categorys. We have conetent for all that, its just buried in the abyss. Big ass job for a human too bad we dont have a way to get a smart machine to do it.

I like the kiss theory, keep it simple stupid. We do have a lot of existing info for sure. I personally feel that too many choices (sub forums and sub forums of sub forums) is like going into a restaurant that has a 6 page menu. If we had enough activity on the forums where we needed this many sub forums I could see a benefit but right now I think for the average un organized fuck like myself less is more. jmho.

If it were simply left to me to handle, this site would be getting a couple hundred thousand hits per day.

The problem here is not the layout of the content, however it is the content itself.

    Ask me how I know.

This is simpler much. Expanding is expanding.
Will it be a radio only board or include much wider electronics interests with radio as a flagpole?

I put most of the new stuff in the Techncial forum, but should Audio Interests (home hi fi tubes and speakers and crap) have their own? If we want a wide range of electronics, then look at the basic topics on any audio BBS. tubes. transistors, fet, power supply, all for audio.

What about a test equipment forum yes/no/maybe?
There's how to USE it, and there's how to REPAIR it. also noobs might appreciate something like "What to buy" - because they always buy the wrong stuff and get shafted on broken stuff thinking they can fix it.

So, how much do we want to expand to earn new members?
What if we expanded enough so that we got most of the non-whiney non-sissy technical people of all kinds to join? It would be a humanitarian accomplishment to give them a place of freedom.

well here is round 2 porpisal. KISS put in place. Did add some forums.
big question. Do we separate ham from CB in the Classifieds?
After thinking I would say no, because if one can't suck it up because seeing other's equipment gives them high blood pressure, then they are welcome to not use the forum.

I think the question about crap builders is legit. Chances are it will happen on some level, but I think there is an offset. This will empower a lot of people to build GOOD amps, the competition would be so dense that 1. Many won't need to buy from a poor builder and 2. with more good builders, no one survives (too much competition), especially with inferior designs. This opens the door for a better version of an existing business model. The site could get into the business of selling the components needed to build the amps it supplies schematics for. Some of that stuff could be custome... Peaks cases were pretty cool. You have to be really careful about about stock levels etc, the hobby isn't exactly raging (another reason to keep it ham friendly) so you don't want to get buried in over-head but I think it's another avenue that could be pursued once other areas have matured. Besides if you do it right, you might pull the crap builders in, get them building better boxes and have them sourcing parts from the site. Wholesale/Retail of components, pull them all in and turn it into an RF Woodstock Love Fest. That retail operation could also be expanded to radio etc... Just depends how far down the rabit hole you want to jump. Have to weigh the cost and industry risks really carefully, but there is probably some level of exposure in there that makes sense.

I'm all for amp design. No black magic or voodoo secret sauce. That would set us above many boards. Members in good standing already know the techniques. Bias is beautiful.
There have been comments about not wanting to give crap-amplifier builders information.
Is this a business competition issue for those building quality products?

I like the general idea of sub-forums for the novice, intermediate, and the accomplished, but I'm not convinced it's right at this time.
What will happen when someone with beginner questions posts in the advanced sub and so on?
The result could be two or more subs with very similar content, and a condition where people bitch at others for posting in the wrong place. That is all a waste of time and really annoying, isn't it?
I think it would be effective, for now, to work with a topical forum that contains all levels of questions and answers and discussion.
If there were enough moderators, or "moderator hours", to daily move posts, and strings of posts, from one sub to another it might work but we are far from that.
How about doing that later when the membership is up? It could fit better.

    "User Experience:
    1. No doxing, none. People need to feel safe. No excuses no exceptions, violators get a permanent on the first offense (that includes me).
    2. Porn goes in the Garbage Pile, no excuses. Violators get restricted to the pile only for n number of days/weeks based on the level of offense or number of strikes. Permanent ban's to the pile are possible.
    3. Healthy debate is healthy, personal attacks aren't. There has to be a line drawn between good-natured shit talking and forum stalking, personal belittling. I don't know where that line is or what it is but you can't have guys like breeze running around telling everyone they belong in the swamp or me chasing them around with photoshopped images of their wedding day (good times but...)"

100% agree. the dirty pictures, perversions, overly filthy language, and like crap has to be relegated to the garbage pile or we're done before we start.
Please no "3. Advanced Design: ... Purple Cock." unless it is a decal clearly of a purple rooster on the amp!

Aside from FCC crap and things that directly affect radio and electronics, how about restricting politics and religion to a garbage-pile-like "restricted" forum?
Those things piss people off and it's loads of fun but if we can keep the focus on technology please?

Yes I suppose this will invite thin-skinned people into this hellz-a-poppin riot, but if we control the type and level of insults delivered to only those which are really deserved, can we live with that?

    Oh yeah-
"ten inches of yarn out a window and create an EMP burst in a five-mile radius. Low level three word responses"

Got it: "yarn warning signal". 8-P

Remember when Ford upsized the Thunderbird to a giant boat for older owners?

Same thing for radio. Ham is CB with callsigns. No difference except the clowns have more money.

I would not try to split up ham and cb anywhere.

The focus should be on radio knowledge improvement.

Ford lost a lot of the cool factor with what they did. Years later some of that cool factor proved to sell pony cars to mid-life crisis buyers.

Leave the cool factor in as much as possible.

A problem with radio sites is competitive radio is really about who has a bigger dick. That attracts a lot of social retards.

By the time you sort out the pedophiles, scam artists, people who simply don't know WTF they are doing, mental masturbaters, folks with brain tumors making them evil, thieves, and other assorted losers you will not have a lot of contestants left.

All one has to do is look at the amplifiers forum on QRZ. It's OK but you need to use the bullshit filter. When it goes bad is is awful. Most of the resident jerks cannot ever be corrected when they fuck up.
