That is a valid point but the OP might be into that kind of thing.

Honestly I never have liked the SSB performance of non CPU controlled PLL's, everyone seems to need work or fiddling with. Most CPU controlled radios are more expensive but are decent at SSB. You have to watch out though some of the exports have issues with mixing and have a harmonic above 28mhz..... I like the Cobra Sound Trackers because they are cheap (know one wants them) and the Sound Tracker module adds some nice compression to the audio. I dont use them for SSB though.....

I wouldn't cap a radio. CB radios are throw away junk (most of them)

The sound tracker radios are the best!
To get the most from them the guy at the other end should also have the radio with the ST circuit. But it isn't really audible in my opinion just a better type of modulation control.

Mine's the 'older' type so no comment on SSB except it works fine. Seldom use it. Only if the other person is.

This is a false statement, it has been repeated and repeated with no creditable evidence. Cobra never said this either. On TX the ST is a simple compressor on RX its a expander. You do not need both, the expander works as a weak noise gate cutting the noise floor static (background noise). We do the same with the HiFi audio stuff no different. ST on I notice a decent change in TX audio with a decent microphone. ST on RX is nice in noisy environments with a lot of static (urban areas). It will cut the volume at a few s-units but allow clean/strong audio to break through. I always monitor with the ST on in my mobile.

I only found sams 207, This covers the TRC-457. I am sure I have the other but they are in stacks of boxes. If you are serious about trying to do it I will look for the other photofact. The radios may be very similar, I am not sure. There is 13 files attached, you will have to flip some of them that are upside down.

I stand by the fact that without the intended circuit on the receive side, the full benefit of the system, as intended by Cobra, is not implemented for the listener.
Cobra marketing would unlikely say anything that would be seen by the masses as a negative statement.
