    They shouldn't...

Usually a super tune consist of changing out the finals to a 1969 or mosfet and a peak and tune. Maybe open the receive up a little bit.

When Moven On Electronics (99 Mile Marker on I-75) in Ohio, did a "Super Tune" on my Cobra 29, they changed the final to a 1969, peak and tune, and cut the Modulation limiter out.:nono: I went back and had them put the limiter back in.

I picked up a 29 dated 1986 at a ham fest for $20.00. Everything (stock stuff) seemed to be inplace execpt for a 1996 final. I had the 1969 supertune done and that included changing res and caps, some were replaced, some added to. Also variable deadkey and the receive mods also done. If you do the recieve mod make sure it can be switched off (i used the dim switch), when someone hits you with a 7 when off, will hit you with a 20 when on. The mod limiter was unsolidered from the board on one end. If the meter is accurate, it dead keys from 1.5 to 8.5 watts, has 9 watts of average swing, and 128% audio when cranked open. Checks tell me that it is loud with good quality audio @ 90-110% (mic gain turned down) and a little dirty when cranked open but not bad. I guess more audio could be gotten but this works for now.

Generally, a "Basic" tune just opens up your modulation and aligns your board for transmit and recieve. A "Supertune" usually implies a poer modification of the driver and final section of the radio; sometimes changing to a 1969 or doing a mosfet conversion in the process. But a Supertune is is a power modification and regular tune all together.

Is the echo an added Halloween effect?

The only difference that some shops have between a tune and a super tune is $25.00. They will talk big shit but give poor results. And have been known to screw up a radio beyond hope.

  12. Thanks MoJo thanked for this post
