Super Scout Amplifier
I have a Super Scout Amplifier. It has (4) What looks like 6jg6 tubes and (8) larger 6MJ6 tubes. The tubes are hard to read because they are old. I think the power supply needs to be replaced. It's a neat looking amp and I'd like to repair it. I'm not sure where to begin. I have done some reading but I am lost. I think I could manage replacing the power supply but I am confused about the tubes. Any suggestions?
test the tubes ......if more than 6 are bad i wouldnt even bother trying to fix it .
the costs of replacement tubes could buy you a nice little pill amp.
now if all 12 tubes are bad .....wow ..your looking at way more than the thing is worth.
personally befor i went and dumped a bunch of money on that i,d look around and check my other options .
tube amps that are not working are sometimes better left that way .
you could invest a few hundred only to find out that you just smoked half the caps on your first key.
those amps are 30 years old or better now.
used 6mj6`s can be 30 a pop or more if they test good .new ones about 50 each unless you get lucky somewhere.good luck whichever way you decide to go.
I used to have one mine were 8950's. The thing rips up everythig, i got rid of it because it was so inaficient it wasnt worth wasting the spendy 8950's on. Im sure you could find a mod someware to clean it up. I have the paper work on the amp someware, when i find it i will get it to you if you would like.
Mudslinger, Don't kill yourself looking for the paperwork, but if you do run across it I would sure appreciate it if you could forward it to me.
I thought I'd post a picture of the Super Scout if anyone is interested. 4 - 6jg6's and 8 6LQ6's. I still have not had the tubes tested.
