Yes I have used a Mr.Coily DX antenna with the 22'' shaft. It worked well on my suburban. I liked it better than 10K stuff.

The Coily is welded and solid shaft made nice.

It performed about the same as the other center loaded 1/4 wave antennas I have.
    Davemade Coil, Monkeymade 3 wrap,55R4, 55R6, Predator 10K etc.

1/4 wave center load is 1/4 wave center load, they all perform close.

should cut the al capone clean off, the al capone no more than a coiled dummyload with a whip on top

Depends on which Coily your talking about...His regular antenna weighs about the same as a 10K...But the others weigh allot more and require a good heavy mount.

My Coily is a shit ton heavier than my Monkey. It also tends to loosen up much faster than the monkey and wallowing of the puck is a concern. You want to have your hands on it frequently, making sure it is tight. The Coily has also spun the Delron inside the puck on one occasion when I over-tightened it, trying to prevent it from loosening. Both show nearly identical tune on the mfj with each being just a tick off frequency, typically x<10. The match is always good but this is typically due to a small amount of loss in the coil. Field strength on my burb; they appear to be about 90 to 95% of a properly tuned true 1/4 wave antenna. There may be some Angle of Radiation change to the coil verses a 1/4 wave but it's hard to determine as getting up into that part of the radiation filed is tough.

My understanding is, not all coil's radiate, that's something that is more common on our frequency and I haven't as of yet found a good formula for determining shifts in AOR - i'm sure there is one out there... Mobile Boss probably recites it in his sleep.

I like the coily and it looks pretty cool - which is why I run it LOL. I'd probably favor the Monkey as more of a set-it and forget-it application. My 2 watts of input.

You should specify that you have the Mr. Coily Comp double coil.

    They are indeed heavy.

I have Coily DX antenna, it's lighter close to a 10K in weight.

i have changed out coily antennas and monkey made antennas chrome plated megawatt trucker 10,000s and replaced them with the 10k antennas
only thing is i tell them if the 10k dont outperform their antenna they can keep the 10k
if it does i knock 25 off the price of the 10k and they have to drive over their old antenna and flatten it out

I was tinkin of puttin my Monkey on the pickup but the 10K is so light and works great and the monkey is heavy. Good ta hear that the Coily is light weight. Less stress on the roof.
