he puts in dual mosfets, tunes, aligns, maybe an RX mod but i dont remember. $285 isnt justified though. ask Mr. 557 what he recommeds to do to it...cause there's a ton of mods available. furthermore the new 959's are comming with dual mosfets from the factory

all the Flamethrower mods are here. I did them myself. So do I have a flamethrower too? What I do know is that I spent less than $20 on parts...not $285!

Well all I can say is I purchased one of the Flamethrowers from E-Bay and hooked it up in my Suburban and got a radio check from my locals. They knew right away I made a change because my audio was horrible. I played with it for a day or two and it came right back out. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

Wirelessly posted (Captain Morgan NJ 400 mobeal: Treo800w/v0100 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE, PPC; 320x320) (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11))

I know someone with one and it sounds good. might just be a case of who tuned it......or who hacked it!
Nevertheless, as iceman pointed out, the parts are not expensive and if you can do it yourself you can save a ton of cash.

    ps.
    iceman, check your pm's.

i agree with Capt. i know that person who has it too and it sounds very nice. the tune (and who did it) is what will make or break any radio

Here's another one thats funny: http://cgi.ebay.com/Galaxy-DX-959-Br...item1e584a3de8

swap 4 diodes w/ Shottkeys, upgrade the preamp, and align. $265 lol not to mention the radio will come back to you a full blazing lip cutting 4 watts. ha!

I see this is an old thread, but I'm going to reply anyway. I used to own one of those Flamethrowers. I have to say, it was probably the nicest 959 I have ever owned. Yes, it was expensive, no doubt there. But the audio was super loud and super clean, even on SSB. I had spoken to a few ham operators on 27.505 USB and they swore I was using an hf rig. And the audio in that thing smacked the piss out of the 2x6 I was running at the time. They are expensive, no doubt, but I had a very positive experience with the one I had. The only reason it went bye bye is because I had to liquidate my gear a while back and it had to go.

It really isn't dual finals. They use an irf520 for the driver and one for the final. Still functions as a single final radio.

you can add the second final as the chassis is based on the export version it has the holes and component screen printing to add a second final and other parts if required
